GOAL

Create a site that will inform users about the game-ified experience Fjord is using to showcase AWS Deep Lens and provide a point were users could put data into the system and participate in the experience.

STAGE 1 : PLANNING

I spoke with the development team to create a flow for the screens they wanted me to the mockup. We brainstormed the actions and the instruction a user might need when visiting the site for the first time. After our meeting I determined a user would need:

  • An onboarding experience

  • To give permission to participate

  • Data ingest point

  • Leaderboard

After the basic wireframes were approved, I went into choosing the colors and style of the site. I decided to create a dynamic gif and declutter the flow of my original design in favor of a simpler more graphic representation.  Furthermore, I pivoted from the carousel I had originally pitched in favor of a video for the onboarding process because of confusion that the carousel seemed to pose with the users who tested it.

After the first iteration of the site I :

  • Combed the site for any bugs or inconsistencies and made a running list for the development team

  • Worked with the development team to implement changes in the design of the page to make it more user family

  • Utilized principles like hierarchy, spacing, and consistent casing to improve the current iteration of the site

  • Furthermore I took steps to ensure that the site was 508 compliant
